Azithromycin is very well known but not by this name. More commonly azithromycin is referred to as Zithromax and is known as an antibiotic that helps to fight off bacteria. In this writing we will refer to the drug as azithromycin.
What is azithromycin used to treat?

Currently, it is not known if azithromycin can be passed on to a baby during breast feeding or whether it is safe or not for nursing babies, but it is known not to give babies under the age of 6 months of age azithromycin. Women who are breastfeeding should always disclose to the prescribing physician that they are breastfeeding.
Is it OK to drink alcohol while taking azithromycin?
Azithromycin can normally be taken without any food but some may want to have a meal prior to taking medication. It is always advised to take azithromycin as described. Taking less than what is prescribed can make the drug ineffective; rather taking more than what is instructed can be harmful. The amount and duration of azithromycin is not the same for different illnesses. Some illnesses require more medication to be taken for a longer time in order to be effective. Azithromycin should be taken for the entire length of the prescription and appropriate amounts. Azithromycin should be stored at room temperature, and not in the company of excess moisture and heat. The prescription has a short shelf life; azithromycin should be used and/or discard within 10 days. The use of the drug is usually not longer than 10 days. Azithromycin comes in a liquid form and is usually taken orally.
When taking azithromycin there are some side effects that a person may experience. Side effects may include, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain in the stomach and headaches. Although this is not a complete list of all the side effects a person can experience while taking the drug these are some of the most common side effects. It is encouraged that any side effects that are persistent in nature should be attended to by a license’s medical provider. People who are actively on any blood thinning medication, should get advice from a medical provider prior to taking azithromycin.

When taking azithromycin no other medication that is purchased over the counter should be taken unless otherwise instructed to do so by a health care provider. This may include but is not limited to over the counter vitamins, herbal supplements and medicines. Unfortunate interactions may result from the mixing of medications with azithromycin.
